A French translation can make an ad readable without making the offer ready for France. A finished cosmetic serum, a prescription medicine and a laboratory reagent need different launch decisions. Start with the exact product and buyer, then plan the campaign. Translating an American campaign does not settle French product or advertising requirements.
For an eligible product, the opportunity is to explain the offer clearly: what is sold, what evidence supports the claims, how delivery works and where a buyer can get a useful answer. This guide concentrates on the French claim review and approval brief, rather than assuming that a peptide ingredient makes a whole catalog suitable for Meta.

Separate the French routes before commissioning creative
France's health ministry explains that public medicine advertising is restricted and subject to a prior advertising authorization from ANSM. Its guidance describes conditions relating to prescription status, reimbursement and product authorization. Those conditions should be checked against the current legislation and the exact medicine; they are not a general route for research-product stores. French health ministry: medicine advertising.
Create a separate review record for every product family. If a laboratory reagent is genuinely supplied for research, its site, audience and sales process should support that use. A research disclaimer beside consumer treatment promises creates a contradiction that a polished banner cannot fix. Unresolved classification is a reason to pause that offer's launch and obtain a qualified assessment.
| Offer under review | Evidence to gather | Launch question |
|---|---|---|
| Finished peptide cosmetic | Formula, labeling, responsible operator and claim evidence | Does the final French copy describe supported cosmetic effects? |
| Medicine | Exact authorization and advertising conditions | Is public promotion allowed for this product and this format? |
| Laboratory reagent | Intended use, buyer process and technical documentation | Is the real offer research supply, and is its promotion eligible? |
Review French meaning, not only translated words
A translation can strengthen a promise unintentionally. An English phrase about appearance may become French copy that suggests repairing tissue or treating a condition. Ask a native reviewer to describe the impression of the whole ad in one sentence. Then compare that impression with the evidence the business actually holds.
France's DGCCRF has highlighted unsupported cosmetic claims and the need to substantiate claims about ingredients and the finished product. An ingredient's presence alone should not become a broad promise about the finished formula. DGCCRF cosmetic claims findings.
Maintain a small claim ledger: French sentence, intended meaning, supporting document, applicable product and reviewer. Include packaging photographed in the ad, subtitles and testimonial selections. A designer should not have to infer whether a statement is permitted from a folder of scientific papers. Give them a short approved fact set and keep the underlying evidence accessible.
Turn evidence into a useful creative brief
For an eligible cosmetic, concepts might explore the packaging, application texture or place within a skincare routine, provided the resulting message remains supported. For a permitted professional research offer, technical documentation and ordering support may matter more than consumer lifestyle scenes. These are different briefs; do not combine their visual language to imply an unsupported use.
Give each concept one job: show what arrives, explain the formulation or clarify delivery. Compare the buyer questions each concept answers, not just its background color. Never invent a clinical badge, authority endorsement or laboratory result to make the design look credible.
The platform assessment is separate. Review the current Meta Drugs and Pharmaceuticals policy for the product and advertiser before submission. A lawful French sale does not by itself establish Meta advertising eligibility.
Make the French purchase journey complete
A French ad that opens an English-only explanation leaves important questions unresolved. Localize the factual details a buyer needs, including seller identity, product presentation, total payable amount, shipping conditions and support. Make exclusions visible before checkout rather than relying on a later support message.
Test the actual destination on a phone. Read the hero, product tabs, related products and cart together. If a cosmetic page links directly into a consumer treatment pitch for a research compound, the journey deserves a fresh review. Keep a record of the complete submitted version so a later catalog edit does not silently change the context of an active campaign.
Agree on a measurement boundary before launch
Document what your team can measure without sending unnecessary or sensitive information to advertising partners. France's CNIL explains that advertising trackers generally require prior consent, while narrowly necessary functions can follow different rules. Do not treat a functioning shopping cart as permission to enable every marketing tag. CNIL explanation of cookies and trackers.
Compare store orders, paid campaign results and consented analytics as different views. A lower measured conversion count can reflect tracking choices as well as commercial performance. Record the interpretation before deciding that a French-language creative has failed. Our privacy-aware measurement guide explains the data inventory behind that decision.
Use a clear release decision
- Identify the exact French product and buyer category.
- Resolve medicine, cosmetic or research classification questions.
- Review each French claim against relevant evidence.
- Confirm Meta eligibility for the actual offer and destination.
- Test the purchase journey and measurement choices.
- Save the released creative, page version and accountable owner.
Does ANSM approval apply to every peptide cosmetic ad?
Do not merge the medicine advertising process with cosmetic compliance. Establish the product category first, then determine which requirements apply. A regulatory-looking logo is not a substitute for that work.
Can one European ad cover France and the Netherlands?
Shared product documentation can help, but copy, buyer understanding and local requirements still need review. Reuse verified facts, then approve each market's final execution.
